David Choquehuanca, Bolivia's vice-president, has not been vaccinated and does not plan to do so. Cases continue to rise in the country.
Bolivia broke its daily record for the second day in a row for the number of HIV/AIDS infections, with 6,149 new cases reported on Wednesday, in the midst of a fourth wave sweeping the country. The latest Ministry of Health report released last night also reported 28 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 19,650, while cumulative infections have reached 591,773 since March 2020.
The local newspaper El Deber reported that the vice-president was at a book presentation on Wednesday at an event held at the offices of the vice-presidency. And, according to the newspaper, "he was without a mask for quite some time" in a room full of people. Local journalists estimate that there were at least 500 people in attendance.
