MSF LOSES TRACK OF 130 STAFF MEMBERS IN PIBOR
Danger seems to be tailing the international humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières. On Saturday (Dec. 31), it lost contact with 130 of its staff members in Pibor county, Jonglei state, South Sudan.
Members of the Lou Nuer ethnic group set fire on houses and attacked villages of the Murle community in Pibor. The MSF clinic, the only one in Pibor, has been looted, damaged and set on fire.
MSF head of mission in South Sudan Parthesarathy Rajendran told news agencies the organization believes its staff members have fled into the bushes along with thousands of civilians to escape and that their precise whereabouts are unknown. He said MSF has only been able to get in touch with 13 of its members.
“MSF is deeply concerned about their safety,” the organization’s statement said.
Just last August, MSF staff members have also been sandwiched in attacks in the town of Pieri, also in Jonglei state. The organization’s compound and clinic in the area were also looted, and parts of the MSf facilities were burned down.

Acting career

The French Nuclear Safety Authority on Monday denied that there has been a radiation leak as a result of the explosion of a furnace in the Marcoule nuclear complex in southeastern France, which caused at least one dead and four wounded.

Iran sentences American hikers to 8 years in prison for illegal entry and espionage
TEHRAN: Iran has sentenced two American hikers detained in the Islamic republic to eight years in prison on charges of "illegal entry" and "espionage," the state television website reported Saturday.
"According to an informed source with the judiciary, Shane Bauer... and... Josh Fattal, the two detained American citizens, have been each sentenced to three years in prison for illegal entry to the Islamic Republic of Iran," the website reported.
It further said that the two have separately been "sentenced to five years in prison on charges of espionage for the American intelligence agency."
The report added that "the case of Sarah Shourd, who has been freed on bail is still open."
The lawyer for the Americans, Masoud Shafii, told AFP that he had not been informed of any decision since their trial ended on July 31.
Bauer and Fattal, both 28, were arrested along with Sarah Shourd, 32, on the unmarked border between Iran and Iraq on July 31, 2009, with the trio claiming they were hiking in Iraq's northern province of Kurdistan when they innocently strayed into the Islamic republic.
They have pleaded not guilty to spying charges.
Shourd is being tried in absentia after she returned to the United States when she was freed on humanitarian and medical grounds in September, paying bail of around 500,000 dollars.
